Who we are
ClipdIn helps climbers find each other. It is operated by a person based in the United Kingdom, who is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at contact@clipdin.com. If you are in the UK and have a concern we can't resolve, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
What we collect
Account details from signing in with Google (name, email), the profile information you add, and the sessions and messages you create. We also collect anonymous, aggregated usage statistics and technical error reports to keep the service running, basic technical data such as your IP address and device or browser type (used by our providers to serve and secure the site), and, if you arrive from a campaign or referral link, basic attribution data about how you found us (see Cookies and Service providers below).
How we use it, and our legal bases
We use your data to run ClipdIn. Under UK GDPR, our legal bases are:
- Contract — providing the service: your account, showing your sessions and profile to other climbers, and enabling messaging.
- Legitimate interests — keeping ClipdIn secure and reliable, diagnosing faults, understanding usage, and understanding how people find us.
- Legal obligation — where we need to comply with the law, for example responding to a valid legal request.
Email notifications about your sessions are on by default and you can turn them off at any time in your profile or from any email.
What we share
We don't sell your data. Profile and session details you post are visible to other users.
We use a small number of trusted service providers to operate ClipdIn, who process data on our behalf (see Service providers below).
Service providers
We rely on these providers to operate ClipdIn:
- Vercel for hosting and our cookieless, anonymous usage analytics.
- Sentry for error and performance monitoring (diagnostic data, no session recording).
- Google for sign in (you authenticate with your Google account).
- Neon for database hosting of your account, sessions, and messages.
- Resend for sending you email notifications about your sessions.
International transfers
Some of our providers may process data outside the United Kingdom. Where they do, we rely on safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses, so that your data keeps a similar level of protection.
Cookies
We keep cookies to a minimum. Most are strictly necessary: they keep you signed in and protect the sign in forms, and don't require consent.
We also set one first-party analytics cookie ("clipdin_attribution", kept for up to 90 days) that records how you first arrived, for example from a campaign or referral link, so we can understand which efforts bring climbers to ClipdIn. It is first-party only, isn't shared, and isn't used for advertising or to track you across other sites. We rely on our legitimate interest in understanding how people find us.
Our usage analytics and error monitoring are cookieless. Because we don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, ClipdIn doesn't show a cookie consent banner. If that ever changes, we'll ask for your consent first.
Data retention
We keep your account, profile, sessions, and messages while your account is active. When you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal data. Attribution data (how you found us) is kept for up to 90 days.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it's wrong;
- ask us to delete your data, or to restrict or object to how we use it;
- ask for a copy of the data you gave us in a portable format;
- withdraw consent where we rely on it, and complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).
To exercise any of these, email contact@clipdin.com.
Children
ClipdIn is for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18; if you believe a child has given us their data, please contact us and we'll remove it.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, but no online service can be completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make a significant change, we'll update the date above.
